The wife of Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant filed for divorce Friday, citing ”irreconcilable differences” after 10 years of marriage. She stood by his side when a Colorado hotel concierge claimed he had raped her in 2003 (the case was later dismissed, but not before Bryant admitted that he had “consensual sex” with the woman). Vanessa Bryant also remained quiet despite reports that Bryant had multiple other extra-marital affairs.
The couple is seeking joint custody of their daughters, Natalia, 8, and Gianna, 5. They have no prenuptial agreement, according to the L.A. Times.
Vanessa Bryant’s in good company. Eva Longoria divorced San Antonio Spurs star Tony Parker last year after reportedly learning that he was cheating on her with his teammate’s wife. Earlier in 2010, Shaquille O’Neal and ex-wife Shaunie O’Neal reached a settlement in their divorce. (In 2008, O’Neal infamously rapped that Bryant, his rival, had ruined his marriage, rhyming, “I’m a horse, Kobe ratted me out, that’s why I’m getting divorced.”)
Most recently, Kim Kardashian divorced Nets player Kris Humphries. But considering that the NBA lockout was in place for the entirety of their 72-day marriage, the basketball connection is tenuous, at best.
